Light Rail 2017

Search >

Light rail transit, the fastest-growing passenger rail mode, employs a full range of technologies and operating practices—unlike rapid transit, which is highly standardized. There are significant differences in light rail vehicle configuration and capabilities. Operating practices are spread over a wide spectrum. Thoughtful, expert service planning and applications engineering is essential. “Out of the box” solutions are inadequate.

Developed for transportation professionals in planning, operations, civil engineering, signaling and vehicle engineering—as well as students at the undergraduate and graduate level—the Railway Age/Railway Track & Structures Second Annual Planning, Engineering and Operating Light Rail conference will offer a comprehensive review of the specialized technical and operational issues associated with light and interurban railways. It will also examine the relationship between transportation and economic development in a modern urban environment.
