World record holder Russ Wicks relies on RACS
Kepler Motors is currently building a special kind of hypercar. World record holder Russ Wicks combines classic sports car attributes with an innovative hybrid drive concept in the Kepler MOTION hypercar, whose design relies on HUBER+SUHNER products.

Unrivalled precision, exclusivity, safety and efficiency - Russ Wicks offers it all with his Kepler MOTION hypercar. Wicks, the founder of Kepler Motors, holds several world speed records on land and water. In the Kepler MOTION, he offers a high-performance vehicle with a unique hybrid drive concept.

800 bhp hybrid drive
The rear wheels are driven by a modified Ford EcoBoost V6 engine with a capacity of 3.5 litres, generating 550 bhp. Two REMY electric motors are mounted on the front axle totaling 250 hp driving the front wheels. The total output of 800 bhp launches the MOTION from 0 to 60 mph under 2.5 seconds. Each electric motor is powered by a battery block supplying 400 V / 600 A through a high voltage distribution unit (HVDU). From this box, the power is routed through the HUBER+SUHNER RADOX® Automotive Connection System (RACS) to two inverters.

Kepler Motion hypercar
The 3-pin high-voltage RACS connection system consists of 2 x 35 mm2 battery cables and a unique connection plate with a space-saving design that allows for a safe, efficient connection between the HVDU and secondary high voltage assemblies.
"We first saw the RACS connection system at Drayson Racing, which was our first contact with HUBER+SUHNER," says Russ Wicks. "The innovative direct connection allows us to connect our high-voltage components with fewer parts, and thus at a lower cost, and with less fault potential." One other benefit that attracted Kepler Motors to HUBER+SUHNER was the ability to utilize a smaller cable bend radius in their design, which allowed to save cable length and weight. That is what convinced them.
RACS also enables the connection between the inverters and the two REMY electric motors - in this case using a two-pin assembly, based on 3 x 50 mm2 battery cables.

A total of 50 MOTIONs are planned, starting in 2014. "We were looking for a manufacturer of reliable high-voltage connections for our production," said Wicks.
