CDR

The CDR (Cable Distribution Rack) is a purpose-built high density fiber management rack which serves as a central cross-connect in the main distribution area of data centers. With a footprint depth of only 300 mm, the CDR is fully modular and scalable up to 1620 ports (3240 fibers) using LC connectivity and 1080 ports (25 920 fibers) using MTP connectivity. Users can benefit from a C-shaped construction where all internal sub-elements are completely installable and accessible from the front side. This important feature means that CDRs can be placed back-to-back on a single floor tile or alternatively against an unused wall for minimal space consumption.

The CDR is 47U high, 300 mm deep and comes in two standard width dimensions of 900 mm and 1200 mm. The 900 mm version is designed for splicing and MTP-LC furcation trays and the 1200 mm version is intended for patching only, whether it be LC or MTP cable systems.

Racks are equipped with adjustable equipment mounting rails with position indicators, fully bonded in compliance with the requirements of EN50310 and offer easy door and panel removal features that allow full access to the adjustable working areas without the need for tools.

IANOS® modules

IANOS® modules

IANOS modules are interchangeable connectivity blocks that can be inserted into the IANOS chassis from the rear or front side. A wide range of different modules are available to cover many different applications such as patching, splicing, transition and conversion. Single and twin modules are available to give users a higher degree of flexibility and choice as to how they want to build their fiber optic infrastructure.

IANOS modules are extremely compact and lightweight and they can easily be inserted and removed as the infrastructure evolves. Operators who upgrade their infrastructure to higher data rates can remove their legacy 10G modules and then replace them with modules more suitable for 40G and 100G for example. This building block approach is what makes the IANOS system so scalable and adaptive.

LISA - side access fiber management systems

LISA is a dedicated high-density fiber management system commonly used as a centralised cross connect in the main distribution area (MDA) of large data centers. With a 300 mm depth and full access from the front side; LISA cabinets can be positioned against unused walls, at the end of cold aisles or back-to-back on a single floor tile.

LISA racks have a density of 1500 LC ports per rack or 3000 LC ports per tile when placed back-to-back. For MTP applications the density is 1080 or 2160 MTP ports respectively.
The main difference between LISA and conventional 19" panels is the fact that LISA is fully accessible from the front side. This means that users can install, patch or remove fiber trays simply by sliding out the tray. This feature is much more attractive than 19" panels which generally require access to the rear side of the cabinet. Patching to the LISA rack is fast and easy and a dedicated slack storage area for jumpers allows users to make "any-to-any" patching with just two lengths of cord.

LISA patching trays are generally used to build a cross-connect (system-to-line) configuration either within the same optical distribution rack (ODR) or between adjacent ODRs and servers with highest flexibility when using pre-terminated and factory tested cable systems.
Cable systems can be patched easily thanks to a sliding and pivoting design. Cables enter the patching tray from the rear left and right hand side of the tray unit and are then horizontally managed before entering the patching tray.

The LISA standard tray unit is a high-density chassis which manages pigtail splicing or MTP-LC transition fiber trays inside the centralised cross-connect rack. Incoming backbone cables enter the tray unit from the left hand side and jumper cables are connected on the right hand side of the tray unit.
Due to 19 inch fixings at the rear of the tray unit, full access can be enjoyed to all incoming and outgoing fibers and the integrated service loops allows the fiber tray to be inserted and retracted quickly and easily.
Standard tray units are supplied in 7U units with a density of 15 x fiber trays in total. Fully loaded 47U high CDR racks will accommodate a maximum of 6 x 7U tray units or 90 x fiber trays.

LISA fiber trays are the side-facing connectivity blocks that are inserted into tray units within high density CDR and NGR racks. Designed for speed of installation and improved accessibility, the LISA fiber trays can be installed and removed in under 10 seconds. fiber trays are available to cover a wide range of applications including pigtail splicing and MTP-LC transitions.

Within the LISA side access portfolio, HUBER+SUHNER offers a sub-rack which allows the integration of any LISA fiber tray into a standard 19" equipment cabinet. Flexible mounting options at the rear of the optimised distribution unit (ODU) make cable fixation quick and easy and bend-limiting conduits give ultimate protection to the incoming fibers. Patch cords are routed to the front side of the ODU and can either be guided to the rear of the cabinet (around the vertical rail) or vertically (along the front of the rail if sufficient side space is available within the cabinet). The ODU has a lockable steel door which provides security to the internal connections. This feature is particularly beneficial in collocation areas where multiple subscribers occupy the same rack space.
 

LISA - front access fiber management systems

The LISA front access system is focused on speed of installation and network security during installation or maintenance. The LISA front access system represents a modular group of products that enables seamless connection of passive optical networks especially in central office environments. Reliability and performance are key to the success of our industry which is why we have ensured that the highest level of fiber protection and bend-radius limitation are standard across all front access system solutions. The center piece of the front access system is a unique and versatile compact module that can be used for pigtail, direct cable splicing or for the integration of pre-connectorised passive components such as splitters.

LISA compact modules for MultiCircuit (MCM) applications combine simple installation and maximum security within an optical network. An integrated loose tube storage facility in each module allows easy removal of the splicing machine without disturbing neighbouring modules. In telecommunication environments, the compact module is particularly suitable for simple physical connections between the equipment and the passive infrastructure by means of inter-connect or cross-connect.

The fiberframe is a 19" patch panel made from aluminium which allows the user to splice or patch various cables and cable systems in a standard 1U height 19" frame. It can accommodate up to 24 adapters such as LC, LX.5, SC and E-2000™. In addition, maximum flexibility is ensured thanks to exchangeable front plates for a wide range of supplementary adapter types. The panel has a density of up to 48 fibers using LC/LX.5/ E-2000™ connectivity and allows the user to bring various different cables and cable systems into the back of the panel, fixed with easy exchangeable back plates. A telescopic drawer ensures the access to the back of the connectors as well as to the splice cassettes and offers a storage area for loose tubes which is separated from the splicing and patching area inside the housing. For splice applications, the well-known ACS splice cassette accommodates up to 24 fibers per cassette using either heat shrink or sandwich splice protectors. The cassette allows the user to store fiber overlength neatly and securely within the cassette and the hinge mechanism ensures access to any cassette without tools. Each housing is delivered with a mounting kit (M5), designation strip, Velcro straps and cable ties.

The fiberframe lite is a 19" patch panel made from solid steel which allows the user to splice or patch various cables and cable systems in a standard 1U height 19" frame. It can accommodate up to 24 adapters such as SC simplex, LC/LX.5 duplex. With the latter, a density of up to 48 fibers per 1U can be achieved. The multifunctional back plate allows the user to bring different cables and cable systems into the back of the panel without having to exchange various back plates. The system uses a single 24 pair cable and a multi-jack module is fitted at both ends of the assembly. Each module port is identified 1 to 6 for simple installation on the panel and is purpose-built to the user’s specific requirements. The LED indicator helps to quickly find the module on the other side saving precious installation and maintenance time.

Optical switches

Polatis' highly reliable piezoelectric Directlight® beam-steering technology sets the industry standard for lowest optical loss and highest performance. With more than a billion port-hours accumulated on deployed units, the Polatis technology platform delivers a broad range of class-leading all-optical matrix switch products into demanding applications. At the core of Polatis optical switches is our patented DirectLight beam-steering technology that makes connections using compact piezoelectric actuators to align collimated beams of light from opposing arrays of input and output fibers with minimal loss, distortion or interference between paths. LC Optipack trunk harnesses are used as pre-connectorised backbone links between cabinets in the data center. Generally, trunk harnesses will be connected to the rear side of patching modules and LC jumpers will be used as equipment cords to servers and switches. Backbones are generally deployed with singlemode fiber because only this fiber offers a future-proofed infrastructure for higher data rates. Multimode LC trunk harnesses are not recommended because LC multimode connectors do not offer an upgrade to 40G or 100G over parallel optics.

Optipack transition harnesses provide a transition from MTP connectivity in the backbone to LC duplex connectivity on switches and servers. Instead of using LC patch panels and cords, the harness provides a fast and compact alternative that plugs directly into equipment transceivers. Many of the data centers today are designed with multimode MTP backbones because this is the most flexible and future-proofed
way of adapting from one type of connector to another.
 

MTP-MTP conversion harnesses

MTP-MTP conversion harnesses

Conversion harnesses allow users to convert their existing MTP backbone cables to an MTP type which matches their active equipment. Conversion harnesses are a low-loss alternative to conversion modules
because they eliminate one mated MTP pair across the link. Many of today’s legacy infrastructures are built using a Base-12 MTP backbone design, however experience shows us that this connector is rarely used on higher data rate switches or servers. Currently Base-8 is the preferred connector for 40G (SR4) transceivers and Base-24 is the preferred connector for 100G transceivers (SR10).
The wide variation of MTP connector types in the modern data center has led to some confusion concerning the identification of different Base-types. HUBER+SUHNER conversion harnesses are supplied with colour coded boots so that users can quickly identify the required connectivity type. This is particularly important with conversion harnesses that have different connectors at each end of the assembly.

Optipack trunk cables are high density multi-stranded cables which form the backbone of the data center. Available in different fiber-counts up to 144 fibers, the Optipack trunks reduce the installation time by consolidating multiple sub-units into a single cable. This approach significantly reduces the overall diameter of the cable and provides much better space utilization of cable routing channels.

Optipack trunk cables are available with 8, 12 and 24 fiber sub-units so that users can deploy Base-8, Base-12 or Base-24 infrastructures to suit their MTP connectivity requirements.

Due to new market demands innovative products are developed and tested in accordance with international standards, which fulfil high mechanical and thermal conditions as well as fire requirements.

Ducting - cable containment

The HUBER+SUHNER fiber containment solution can be installed underfloor or overhead and provides a secure and stress-free routing channel for fiber optic cabling within a data center. Curved fittings such as crosspieces, tees and elbows are specifically designed to protect fibers so that a minimum bend radius of 30 mm is maintained at all times.

Unlike conventional cable baskets and ladders, the HUBER+SUHNER fiber containment solution offers lateral support along the complete fiber length. This reduces the risk of macro-bending and micro-bending of the individual cables.

In order to reduce installation times and simplify the complete assembly process, HUBER+SUHNER supply all duct components pre-assembled with joiners. This unique feature can reduce installation times by as much as 50 % and reduces a lot of the complexity involved in connecting straight ducts of different lengths to other components. Because a straight duct always requires at least one joiner, we assemble this in the factory so that full-length ducts can be connected in the fastest possible time. We also pre-fit the screws on the unmated side of the joiner to further improve handling and reduce installation times.

The HUBER+SUHNER fiber containment portfolio provides lateral support and prevents micro bending losses from fibers bent below their minimum bending radius. This system also guarantees that there are no sharp edges or stacked fiber bundles thus reducing risk of downtime.

The clean and ergonomic design guarantees efficient fiber management throughout the containment grid and ensures that the cool air reaches critical equipment.

The ability to coil up excess cable at the end of the row prevents excess cable consuming valuable rack space. This allows full optimisation of duct capacity adding little CAPEX but positively affecting long-term OPEX whilst maintainig a high level of flexibility.

No special tools or expertise are required to connect components allowing accurate layouts to be made with customer floor plans using VISIO stencils. This guarantees easy upgrades and a future-proofed design while at the same time ensuring fast and easy installation by providing a clear path for technicians to follow.
