Space qualified solutions

Space qualified solutions
HUBER+SUHNER has been delivering innovative passive microwave products in a number of scientific and commercial space projects for the past 15 years. Our innovative products have demonstrated superior mechanical and functional capabilities under the extreme conditions in space.  We have developed a number of successful products for a wide range of space applications, which range from low earth orbit (LEO) to geo synchronous orbit (GSO) and also include manned missions and interplanetary unmanned vehicles. HUBER+SUHNER continues to develop reliable, high performance products for the aerospace industry.

Reliability
HUBER+SUHNER remains the most reliable source of connectivity within the aerospace industry.  Thanks to our world-class, on-site testing facilities, we are recognised by our customers as a leader in the areas of Lot Acceptance Testing and Qualification Campaigns. Our testing capabilities are focused on delivering both component level testing as well as module or sub-system testing for simplified system integration by our customers.  Our commitment to comprehensive pre-launch, launch and life testing remains a key success factor in our continuous growth within this market.

Ultra-low-weight
The SUCOFLEX 300 series cable construction uses ultra-light materials, which enables weight reduction of up to 40% compared with the standard cable assemblies. This weight reduction is possible without sacrificing any electrical or mechanical performance characteristics.

Bend-to-the-end
Minibend is a truly flexible coaxial cable assembly with the most advanced feature called bend-to-the-end. This patented, solderless assembly process allows us to achieve an unparalleled bend radius right at the end of the cable entry, eliminating the need for additional right-angled connectors. This feature reduces cost, whilst at the same time increasing flexibility and reliability.

Non-outgassing materials
Our spaceflight cable assemblies are manufactured in compliance with the ECSS-Q-ST-70-02 and NASA reference publication 1124, which specifies a maximum Total Mass Loss (TML) of 1% or Collectable Volatile Condensable Material (CVCM) Level of 0.1%.

High radiation resistance
Our spaceflight cable assemblies are available with a number of jacket material options, which meet with the various radiation resistance requirements. Fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) jackets are proven to be resistant to up 30Mrads, whilst ECTE is resistant to more than 100Mrads.  Our new ECTFE material is resistant to more than 200Mrad. In addition, all Minibend H series consist of a five shield outer conductor construction to further improve the overall resistance against radiation due to a higher absorption of free electrons.

Minimised Passive Intermodulation (PIM) Interference
Carefully selected materials and optimized designs for our connector and cables are the foundation for minimizing the effects due to passive intermodulation.

Microminiature connectors

HUBER+SUHNER connector series SMPM, SMPM-T, SMP, MMCX and MMPX are mainly used for connections to a PCB. The different connector series offer a wide range of products suitable for various applications.

MMCX

MMCX

HUBER+SUHNER MMCX connectors are intended for use in applications where the smallest dimensions have to be achieved. These connectors can be used in applications from DC to 6 GHz. The reliable "snap-on" coupling mechanism ensures that the electrical parameters are consistently reproduced. Due to its non-slotted outer contact, the MMCX series provides a low RF leakage. In addition, HUBER+SUHNER SMT MMCX connectors fully meet today’s SMT (Surface Mount Technology) requirements with superior design, material selection and packaging. HUBER+SUHNER SMT connectors are suitable to all reflow-soldered SMT-PCBs where impedance matching or screened signal transmission is necessary.

SMP

SMP

HUBER+SUHNER SMP connectors provide a robust, proven and fully compatible plug-in solution for applications up to 40 GHz. SMP connectors have been MIL-SPEC qualified for defense and space flight hardware. The design of the interface and treatment of materials provide true compatibility as well as guaranteed mechanical performance over the mating life of the connector with all MIL-STD-348 SMP connectors in the market.

SMPM

SMPM

HUBER+SUHNER SMPM connectors offer unrivalled miniaturisation and performance for RF applications up to 65 GHz. SMPM connectors are MIL-SPEC qualified for defense and space flight applications. Along with the unique bend-to-the-end Microbend style cable connectors, HUBER+SUHNER offers a large portfolio of different PCB mount SMPM connectors that have been designed with optimised PCB trace launch geometries to offer a complete interconnect design solution from "wire-to-trace".

SMPM-T

SMPM-T

SMPM-T is the smallest threaded open source connector on the market. Its unique and innovative combination of a MIL-STD-348 SMPM female interface connector together with a retractable threaded nut provides an integrated solution offering unprecedented electrical and mechanical performance. The SMPM-T handles high density requirements with a connector centreline-to-centreline spacing of just 5 mm (0.20 in) while offering unmatched electrical stability at frequencies up to 67 GHz in even the harshest operating environments.

Minibend series

The minibend series is a truly flexible, 100% tested, preassembled coaxial cable assembly line that is designed for use in low profile internal point-to-point interconnections between RF modules within communications systems. The patented solder-less cable junction allows bending of the cable immediately behind the connector, which eliminates the need for expensive, heavy, and performance-limiting right angle connectors.

Microbend

Microbend

Microbend assemblies provide you with a standard preassembled and tested high performance, cost-effective truly flexible alternative to 0.047 inch custom semi-rigid cable assemblies, eliminating the need for predefined custom lengths and bend configurations. Microbend features include 35 % lower loss than 0.047 inch semi-rigid cable, a minimum bend radius of 1.52 mm (0.060 inch) and triple shielding for high isolation. Microbend assemblies are available with a wide range of connector interfaces. All Microbend assemblies are available only in a ruggedised version.

Phase shifters

Phase shifter portfolio

Phase shifter portfolio

HUBER+SUHNER phase shifters allow phase change while maintaining constant VSWR and insertion loss values. These passive devices have proven to be successful in aerospace, missile, and satellite programs. The construction of all phase shifters and trimming devices incorporate fine gauge threads for precise tuning. Phase shifters are terminated with precision interfaces per MIL-STD-348 including SMA, TNC, and N (in series and between series). However, custom devices can be manufactured using other interfaces.
