The Polatis all-optical switch is an out-of-line network element that enables fiber monitoring via passive optical taps. It can switch fibers between test and monitor equipment remotely, in milliseconds, independent of protocol, data rate or colour , in real time to diagnose existing or potential network issues without interfering with user traffic. With all-optical switching, any optical connection can be remotely monitored and tested and can be configured to switch automatically based on reduction, or loss, of the optical signal.

Switching occurs completely independently of the power level, colour or direction of light on the path, enabling pre-provisioning of dark fiber and avoiding concatenation of switching delays across mesh or multi-stage switched optical networks.
