Boxes ruggedised

Ruggedised outdoor fiber-to-the-antenna (FTTA) boxes are often used for remote radio installations. The installation method with boxes is cost effective and offers installation flexibility for mobile network operators. Usually, a multi-fiber riser cable is connected to the mast mounted FTTA distribution box which is then linked to the remote radio heads with short jumper cables.

HUBER+SUHNER offers 4 different sizes of ruggedised outdoor FTTA distribution boxes to enable installations of 3 to 18 remote radios per site. All boxes are equipped with stainless steel mounting brackets for an easy and quick installation to poles, walls and tower legs. A protective vent equalises pressure and prevents water condensation. A multitude of knock-out holes allows flexible cable entry and the use of different cable gland sizes.

We also offer a basic cable clamp portfolio, which covers most of the RRH installation solutions and cable combinations. The clamps used are field-proven, easy to install and allow for an upgrade or exchange of cables.

MASTERLINE Classic uses separate multi-fiber and multi-conductor copper riser cables that are connected to mast mounted FTTA/PTTA distribution boxes which are then linked to the RRHs with short jumper cables. Traditionally multi-riser cables with distribution boxes have been the preferred solution for multi-RRH installations, however with the increasing number of remote radios per site mast space limitations and wind loading have become critical issues to operators.
Moreover some operators can incur extra leasing costs for every box placed on the mast, thus distribution box based systems are gradually being superseded by box-less solutions like MASTERLINE Extreme (see  page 42). In general, the installation method with boxes is cost effective and offers installation flexibility but it does require handling and connecting of indoor LC connectors at the mast-top distribution box. Many operators want to avoid the risk of opening and maintaining mast-top boxes by non-trained or non-authorised persons.

It is designed to support stand-alone installations of 1 to 4 radios per node or as a daisy chain solution of 1 to 3 radios per node or demarcation point.

MLU SC also offers the ability to integrate passive WDM modules into its compact footprint allowing to install multiple radios where fiber exhaustion or limited fiber backhaul opportunities exist. The HUBER+SUHNER DC Block product line includes DC blocks (inner conductor disconnected) and DC-DC blocks (inner and outer conductor disconnected) for galvanic isolation up to 15 kV. They block high-amplitude and low frequency surge voltages e.g. occurring during regular electric railway operation along railway lines. They provide sufficient safety even in the event of the overhead high voltage lines falling to the ground.

LISA - side access fiber management systems

LISA is a dedicated high-density fiber management system commonly used as a centralised cross connect in the main distribution area (MDA) of large data centers. With a 300 mm depth and full access from the front side; LISA cabinets can be positioned against unused walls, at the end of cold aisles or back-to-back on a single floor tile.

LISA racks have a density of 1500 LC ports per rack or 3000 LC ports per tile when placed back-to-back. For MTP applications the density is 1080 or 2160 MTP ports respectively.
The main difference between LISA and conventional 19" panels is the fact that LISA is fully accessible from the front side. This means that users can install, patch or remove fiber trays simply by sliding out the tray. This feature is much more attractive than 19" panels which generally require access to the rear side of the cabinet. Patching to the LISA rack is fast and easy and a dedicated slack storage area for jumpers allows users to make "any-to-any" patching with just two lengths of cord.

This solution, a factory-terminated hybrid-riser cable assembly, minimises the amount of cables running up the mast. At the hybrid distribution box the multi-fiber/wire cable is split into individual cables which are linked to the RRHs with short jumper cables. The jumpers allow an adaptation to different RRH interfaces and therefore make the solution independent from the system vendor’s hardware. A box solution enables the use of circuit breaker and/or surge protection devices.
However, this installation method requires large and bulky boxes on the top of the mast. With increasing number of remote ratios per site, space limitations and wind load become critical issues. Many operators also want to avoid the risk of opening and maintaining mast-top boxes by non-trained or non-authorised persons.

HUBER+SUHNER GPSoF modules are focused on distributing a single GPS signal into multiple receiver systems. This approach ensures that signal data, such as time synchronization into separate, yet connected, systems is always the same. Standard GPSoF systems include both single and multiport solutions; and accommodate both L1 and L2 bands.

In addition to the GPSoF modules, HUBER+SUHNER also provides a Time and Frequency Standard (TFS) module. This module uses 1PPS to ensure that time synchronization is still possible in the event of a loss of GPS signal. The pulse is synchronized to the average of the GPS signal. The module also provides a 10 MHz electrical output, which is used for reference signaling.
