As wireless services are about to become available virtually everywhere, modern day train passengers expect to use their mobile phones, PDAs, notebooks and alike for making calls from the train and having access to internet, e-mail and infotainment applications when travelling.
Train radio is paving it’s way to new applications. Over the next few years GSM-R will supersede the old analogue train control radio in many European countries. New communication technologies such as GSM-GPRS, WiFi and WiMAX are driving the demand for new trainborne services, with real time passenger information systems, online video surveillance, and train monitoring during operation which started already.
