Global production and logistics concept introduced
Another key measure was the decision to streamline and optimize the Group's production and logistics activities around the world and adapt capacities to reduced demand. This involved the transfer of production and assembly plants to particularly competitive, cost-effective locations, the development of specialized centers of competence in the three sales regions of Europe, the Americas, and Asia, and the introduction of global management structures in the area of production and logistics. Production activities were shifted from the Herisau and Bicester (UK) factories in particular, and a new assembly plant was set up in Poland. At the same time, the Group also expanded the Shanghai location, turning it into a regional center of competence. The plant, which now employs over 150 staff, manufactures products for the major growth market of China and for export business. The new production and logistics concept allows for substantially more cost-effective procurement and production, greater flexibility in the event of fluctuating demand, and lower inventory levels.
