Dear Sir or Madam

The term "digital transformation" has become a very much used buzzword. It does not only mean digitalisation in and of itself, but also the change in society that it entails. For a company, this means not only focusing on digital work and production processes, but also recognising their influence on employees and acting accordingly.

With HUBER+SUHNER this mind set-up is on the implementation path. Due to our offering with the three relevant technologies for the Communication market our employees are always close to the projects that focus on the digitalisation. 5G, autonomous traffic, machine-to-machine communication, new space, etc. count on solutions from us. We share some examples with you in this, our first newsletter of 2019.

On-board optical broadband networks

Over the last few years, the emergence of Ethernet as an industry standard for on-board communications in trains has moved from concept to reality. Additionally, the rapid development of wireless technologies with upcoming cellular 5G and WLAN IEEE 802.11ad standards will enable massive data transfers between on-train equipment and ground infrastructures. This whitepaper examines how fiber optic technology has been adapted to the requirements of railway vehicles and how it is now ready to support the industry’s new business strategies better than any other physical layer medium.
