Small cells and DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) will play a key role in the deployment of 5G networks. They allow wireless systems to support more users and faster speeds. Small cells are typically dedicated to a single carrier. DAS systems have additional management functions that allow them to support more than one service provider and are mainly installed within buildings.
 
To support 5G, these antennas have been developed for transmission at higher frequencies. Those are less overloaded than lower frequencies, but also create challenges: Since the signals at higher frequencies are not so strong, interferences from walls and trees can arise. The solution to bypass these is to install smaller antennas everywhere - on light  and telephone poles, traffic lights, roofs and throughout the interior of buildings.
 
The HUBER+SUHNER antenna families cover frequency ranges up to 6 GHz. Thanks to these extremely broadband radiation properties, cost-intensive and space-wasting installation of separate antennas for individual applications is unnecessary, facilitating the integration of distributed antenna systems in existing buildings with reasonable material and installation expense and simultaneously enabling an aesthetic design. Excellent intermodulation behaviour makes these antennas deeply interesting for DAS in a multi-operator environment.

In this newsletter we present the recently launched SENCITY Occhio antenna for DAS. This new antenna is another example of a 5G ready antenna from HUBER+SUHNER after the successfull launch of the SENCITY Urban antennas for small cells a month ago.
