HUBER+SUHNER AG, a global leader in electrical and optical connectivity solutions, and SK Signet Inc., a top global manufacturer of EV charging solutions for both consumer and commercial vehicles, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to reinforce their commitment to sharing expertise and knowledge to help accelerate global development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

The MOU is intended to spur innovations in EV charging infrastructure to support the growth of EVs. According to the IEA’s Global Vehicle Outlook 2022, the number of publicly available EV charging stations reached 1.8 million units in 2021, a 37% increase from the year before. The growth, however, wasn’t fast enough to keep pace with EV sales. By 2030, this number will need to increase twelve-fold to meet publicly stated goals for electrification, the report says.

“Car-buyers are showing a strong interest in EVs to reduce their impact on the environment and their dependence on gas, but they don’t want to give up the convenience of a quick fill-up at their local service station,” said SK Signet CEO Jung Ho Shin.

“By sharing knowledge and expertise, SK Signet and HUBER+SUHNER hope to gain new insights that help us each advance our EV charging technology and provide consumers faster ways to recharge their vehicles,” added Seung June Oh, President of SK Signet America.

“We are very proud of our ongoing collaboration with SK Signet to advance safe, high performance and reliable charging solutions for the fast-growing EV market,” said Francisco Fraga, SVP Sales – Industrials for HUBER+SUHNER. “SK Signet was one of our first partners for Electrify America and we are confident that with our combined expertise and exceptional quality standards, we will continue to innovate the industry well into the future.”

HUBER+SUHNER boasts the largest number of installed cooled, high-power charging (HPC) systems for EV charging stations in the world. SK Signet, formerly Signet EV, was acquired in 2021 by SK Inc.,  is a market leader in fast and ultra-fast charging technology.
