Currently just over 27% of the UK currently has full fiber coverage. Other European countries boast over 60% penetration rates. The UK government see the benefit of a full fiber infrastructure, that is often built by a range of forward thinking Altnets - not forgetting the work of Openreach. There now is an exciting opportunity for providers to deliver full-fiber broadband to more areas of the UK.

Ogi, formerly known as Spectrum Internet, are using WDM backhaul (Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) to actively build full fiber broadband networks, initially connecting 150,000 homes across South Wales. Residents and businesses in Haverfordwest, Abergavenny, Rhoose, Llantwit Major and St Athan will now be able to benefit from increased speed and bandwidth for new data-intensive applications and digital services.

To deliver Ogi’s ambitious digital strategy, choosing a cost-effective infrastructure that prepares the network for the long-term future was a key consideration to get right. HUBER+SUHNER teamed up with Ogi to provide a single fiber working WDM solution that could:
