High voltage power splitter

The high voltage power splitter (HVPS) has been designed to solve routing issues. It is capable of making significant weight and space savings while reducing the total cost of ownership. In addition, customer engineering teams are now able to use off-the-shelf parts that are closest to fitting the intended application. This results in cost savings during a less intensive development process.

Innovative HVPS to improve wiring harness manufacturing efficiency

Harness design has become a crucial part of the design process, making it imperative to understand aspects such as space constraints, high-voltage cable routes, and connector options.

OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers must consider the number and sophistication of connection system features integrated into their vehicles, as these directly affect the harness's weight, size, and cost.

The HVPS utilises touch-proof enclosures and includes a semi-pluggable RADOX EV-P interface. These connections are designed with durability in mind. Reinforced interfaces, high-quality materials, and precision engineering make them more resistant to wear and tear than standard solutions. This durability not only extends the lifespan of the connection system but also ensures consistent high voltage performance over time.

The final advantage of implementing HVPS with a semi-pluggable option is the reduction in the total time required to install the harness onto a commercial vehicle. This includes minimizing delays, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies in the production process, thereby improving overall output, reducing lead times, and enhancing responsiveness to changes.

FAQ

Why wire harness design is so important?

keyboard_arrow_up

Well designed wiring harnesses are fundamental for the reliable operation of electrical systems. Proper routing, securing, and termination of wires and connectors minimize the risk of electrical faults like shorts and open circuits. HVPS helps to design the harness layout to be as compact as possible while maintaining proper cable management practices.

How to overcome wire harness routing difficulty?

keyboard_arrow_up

Choose routes that are accessible for assembly and future maintenance while avoiding sharp bends or areas with limited space.  By using Splitter Customers are able to minimize wasted space and ensure the harness integrates smoothly. In addition, Splitter helps to find an optimal balance between wire length (minimizing excess) and overall cost.

Is Splitter equipped with HVIL?

keyboard_arrow_up
  • It is NOT. However, HVPS is completely sealed solution, and there is no access into the unit as there is no removable access panel.
  • All isolator components (inside of the housing as well as on the cable) provide a degree protection against contact with live parts per IPXXB. This degree of protections represents necessary and sufficient condition to protect from direct contacts.
  • Plus and minus are in separate housings, eliminating risk of short circuits. Housing is marked with high voltage signs, alerting people to the presence of potentially dangerous electrical equipment or high-voltage power lines.
  • HVPS has coding options to prevent mis-mating and ensure that connectors of the same polarity are correctly matched.
  • High protection against unintentional high voltage cable disconnection. Cable nuts are tightened/untightened with mechanical tools.
