HUBER+SUHNER is proud to announce that we have extended our highly reliable and popular Q-ODC (Quicklock OutDoor Connector) portfolio to include APC (Angled Physical Contact) variants. This is the latest in a series of steps we’ve taken recently to address a vital gap in specific industrial applications.

Q-ODC APC connectors from HUBER+SUHNER

These new single core to 24-core metal-encapsulated fiber optic connectors will enable reliable data streams to be transmitted much more easily, across several industries.

The physical effects of these new APC connectors can significantly improve optical performance and return loss, as their angled face ensures any reflected light exits into the jacket of the cable, instead of remaining in the fiber core.

Key features and benefits of APC variants

  • APCs improve optical performance by reducing reflections (a key requirement for industrial applications like sensor application).
  • They are quick and easy to install, especially within very rough environment conditions
  • HUBER+SUHNER APC variants are available with blind mateable configurations
  • They have a protected enface (recessed in the outer housing)
  • These variants are vibration proof, preventing any loosening of connections
  • They’ve been tested to have an increased IP rating (IP68, 30 days, 3m) to deal with very rough environment conditions
  • They’re also been size-optimized for easy integration in space-limited customer premises
  • Waterproof, dust-proof and corrosion resistant, these connectors are capable of operating at a temperature range between -40°C to 85° C.

The industries calling out for APC variants

Communications and Broadcasting:

Think about the last time you saw an extreme close-up of a play during a football game, with just the right camera angles, cutting to the right player, as he’s about to take a shot. With rising consumer expectations and demands for high-quality visuals as the example above, the broadcast industry needs to manage higher data rates and more camera angles. Fiber optic infrastructure is also not typically available in sports or event locations but must be installed on the fly. In these scenarios, any broadcaster’s ability to deploy fiber optics rapidly is a competitive advantage.

Wind power:

The reliable operability of wind turbines is critical for wind power infrastructure, especially as countries are looking to roll out more wind energy initiatives, as part of global energy transition. Fiber optic links are important in monitoring and control of wind turbines. Our connectors have a positive impact on deployment and reliability as they are designed for quick and easy installation under difficult conditions and are capable of withstanding mechanical stress, temperature swings and longevity.

Mining (oil and gas):

In extreme environments such as mines, Mining firms need to have confidence in robust fiber optic networks. The needs for these networks has only increased in the past few years, in step with their growing breadth and sophistication of automation. HUBER+SUHNER Q-ODC connectors with APC variants deliver robustness to shock, ingress, and mating durability while maintaining low insertion losses, making a key difference in such environments.

Railway (rolling stock):

Trackside communication and the railway industry is another space where our APC variants will be most effective. Designed to meet the railway industry’s most important environmental and fire-safety requirements, our QODC APC connectors deliver exceptional performance, reliability and durability.
