Wired device connections

Wired device connections
In the frame of switched-technology networks, the considerable increase of IP addresses on-board trains reflects the increase of on-board devices that are physically connected to the train communication network. Each connected device needs a dedicated physical link to the communication components - the switches - which generally consists of an Ethernet cable terminated with a connector.

HUBER+SUHNER provides Ethernet twisted-pair connectivity that enable interfacing end devices such as CCTV Cameras, Network Video Recorders, Media Servers, Passenger Information Displays, Radio Access points or even Passenger Emergency Intercoms to the on-board network.

Depending on the data rate requirements and the nature of the installation (e.g. temporary or permanent) HUBER+SUHNER provides a variety of solutions:

Solutions for Fast Ethernet connections (100BASE-T)
  • Cat5 cables complying with EN 45545-2 fire safety standard
  • 4-pole M12 connectors compliant with EN 61373 Vibration and Shock standard
  • Preterminated assemblies with overmoulded M12 connectors
  • Field mountable solutions
Solutions for Gigabit Ethernet connections (1000BASE-T, 10GBASE-T)
  • Cat7 cable complying with EN 45545-2 fire safety standard
  • 8-pole M12 connectors compliant with EN 61373 Vibration and Shock standard
  • Preterminated assemblies with overmoulded M12 connectors
  • Field mountable solutions
For both Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet solutions, field mountable M12 connectivity provides a high level of flexibility for installation conditions either where cable lengths are not precisely defined or where cables have to be pulled through small openings thus not allowing the use of preterminated assemblies.

See installation video for RADOX Railcat CAT7 M12.

Wherever the installation conditions allow for it, preterminated solutions with overmoulded M12 connectors provide cost-competitive and high-quality Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet links. Manufactured and tested in a professional production environment, these assemblies deliver reliable and stable performance both on mechanical and data transmission aspects.

Databus cables

Providing cables that reliably transmit ever increasing volumes of data while meeting demaning market requirements is the greatest challenge for cable manufacturers. For this purpose, HUBER+SUHNER has included databus cables in its product range for different markets.

HUBER+SUHNER combines extensive expertise in data communication with electron-beam-cross-linked material technology. The databus cables developed in-house (pre-terminated on request) provide reliable solutions for use in high-temperature applications and harsh environmental conditions. The databuses fulfil the requirements of different markets due to their excellent mechanical and electrical characteristics.
