DNV Type Approval marks key milestone for RADOX® high voltage battery cables in marine applications

23.07.2025 - 10:00 (CET)

HUBER+SUHNER is delighted to announce that our shielded RADOX® single core and multi core high voltage cables have received official DNV Type Approval (certificate no: TAE000053V) – a significant achievement that reinforces our commitment to electrification across the maritime industry and beyond.

What is DNV Type Approval?

DNV (Det Norske Veritas) is a globally recognised classification society. Its Type Approval certifies that a product meets stringent safety, performance, and environmental standards for use on ships, offshore units, and high-speed craft. This approval is a prerequisite for many marine applications.

Certified for the demands of the sea

The approved cable types – RADOX® 155(S) and RADOX® Elastomer S (FHLR91XC13X & FHLR4GC13X according to datasheet STD806104 & STD806686) – are designed for use in battery and fuel energy systems on vessels. They combine high electrical performance with strong mechanical and chemical resistance, making them ideal for demanding marine conditions. Each cable is engineered for long-term durability, featuring a bare copper conductor, RADOX® insulation, EMC shielding, and a durable RADOX® Elastomer S sheath.

Cables are now certified for:

  • Voltage ratings of up to 1500 V DC / 1000 V AC
  • Operating temperatures from -40°C to +130°C 50’000h
  • Applications including battery wiring, PDUs, onboard chargers, AC/DC charging sockets, and auxiliary systems

Why it matters

This certification opens the door to new opportunities in the maritime sector, particularly for hybrid and fully electric vessels. With the DNV Type Approval, shipbuilders and system integrators can now confidently specify our RADOX® cables for critical onboard energy systems.

Moreover, the approval underscores our cables’ compliance with international standards such as ISO 19642-9 class D and IEC 60332-1-2, ensuring long-term reliability, UV and weathering resistance, and fire safety.

Looking ahead

As electrification continues to reshape the mobility landscape in maritime, automotive, and other sectors, HUBER+SUHNER remains committed to delivering future-proof solutions that meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and sustainability - both on land and at sea.
