Data center cable management
Data center cable management includes methods, procedures and products for keeping the cabling infrastructure in a neat and proper condition during a data center’s lifetime. Following the commissioning of a structured cabling system – which includes the installation of main distribution frames, intermediate frames, fiber trunks and patch panels – data center cable management is one of the routine operations within data centers. The cable management of a data center can be purely physical, semi-automatic or fully automatic with optical switching technology. The connectivity scheme within a data center changes on a daily basis, which involves Moves, Adds and Changes (MACs) of patch cords and other hardware. Having well-organised cable management in a data center demonstrates its maturity of operations.

Data center cable management methods include the administration of cabling infrastructure, labelling and documentation. The associated operational procedures include the execution and tracking of connectivity, planning of upgrades, testing, cleaning of interfaces etc.
