Optical switches

The highly reliable piezoelectric DirectLight™ beam-steering technology from POLATIS sets the industry standard for lowest optical loss and highest performance. With more than a billion port-hours accumulated on deployed units, the POLATIS technology platform delivers a broad range of class-leading all-optical matrix switch products into demanding applications. At the core of POLATIS optical switches is our patented DirectLight beam-steering technology that makes connections using compact piezoelectric actuators to align collimated beams of light from opposing arrays of input and output fibers with minimal loss, distortion or interference between paths. Alignment is maintained using feedback from integrated position sensors to ensure connection stability over time, temperature and external disturbances. Switching occurs completely independently of the power level, colour or direction of light on the path, enabling pre-provisioning of dark fiber and avoiding concatenation of switching delays across mesh or multi-stage switched optical networks. POLATIS optical switches are fully non-blocking and available in sizes from 8x8 to 576x576.

POLATIS® 576

POLATIS® 576

The POLATIS 576 represents a major advance in the size and performance of POLATIS all-optical circuit switches. The largest non-blocking optical circuit switch now available on the market is 576x576. It features an all-new internal architecture designed to enhance in-field reliability, availability and serviceability and a new optical core design, enabling a higher port density, reducing energy consumption and saving valuable rack space.

The control system is distributed and closely integrated at the level of the optical ports. Coupled with built in control redundancy, this greatly enhances the resilience and reliability of the switch for operations in mission-critical applications.

To further protect mission-critical services, the POLATIS 576 can be equipped with field-addressable spare ports so that an interruption on any port can be bypassed rapidly by moving the fiber to a spare and reassigning the port in software.

The core of the POLATIS 576 is built on patented DirectLight™ optical switching platform that has been proven in the most challenging data center, telecom, defense and test applications for over two decades.

The POLATIS 576 enables applications to scale with no additional impact on optical budgets. It reduces the time to revenue by enabling the automation of testing in network test laboratories and the automaton of cross connects in data centers. It helps to reduce the risk to networks and national security by allowing network monitoring and cybersecurity applications to survey more lines more cost-effectively. The POLATIS 576 is the ultimate in reliable all-optical switching solutions.

SERIES 6000

SERIES 6000

The POLATIS® Series 6000 Optical Switch is a high-performance, fully non-blocking all-optical matrix switch available in sizes from 4x4 up to 192x192. It is designed to meet the highest performance and reliability needs of the most demanding applications with exceptionally low optical loss, compact size, low power requirements and fast switching speeds. With support of Software-Defined Networks (SDNs) via an embedded OpenFlow and NETCONF control interfaces, the Series 6000 enables extremely low latency for time-critical traffic required for new virtual cloud services in hybrid packet-optical data centers. The Series 6000 is based on POLATIS patented DirectLight™ optical switching technology that has been proven in the most challenging data center, telecom and defense applications and is also used by major network equipment manufacturers to automate testing of optical components and subsystems.

SERIES 6000 MULTIMODE

SERIES 6000 MULTIMODE

The POLATIS® Series 6000 family of multimode optical switches utilises the patented DirectLight™ beam-steering technology to deliver high performance in a compact, fully non-blocking, multimode product, in matrix sizes from 8 x 8 to 16 x 16.

The Series 6000 multimode switch is designed to meet the needs of the most demanding component, subsystem and system test applications. All-optical switching allows test equipment connections to be fully automated and controlled remotely 24/7 via software from virtually anywhere in the world.

POLATIS patented DirectLight beam-steering technology holds dark fiber connections so test pathways can be pre-provisioned; it is transparent to signal format and transmission speeds so there is no need to upgrade as standards evolve

Its exceptionally low optical loss, high connection repeatability and fast switching times make it ideal for optical test applications. There is no need repeatedly to make and break fiber optic connections so more accurate measurement results can be achieved.

It is now available with POLATIS full network interface capability including SDN with NETCONF and RESTCONF control interfaces and an advanced dynamic web GUI, and features dual hot-swap power supplies for added reliability.

SERIES 7000

SERIES 7000

The POLATIS® Series 7000n 384x384 all-optical circuit switch is designed to meet the most demanding applications with exceptionally low optical loss, compact size, and fast switching speeds. With support for Software-Defined Networks (SDNs) via embedded OpenFlow and NETCONF control interfaces, the Series 7000n can route time-critical traffic with very low-latency to enable new virtual cloud services in hybrid packet-optical data centers. The Series 7000n is the latest addition to the POLATIS product line of optical switches and modules, creating the broadest portfolio available of dynamic fiber cross-connect solutions (from 4x4 to 384x384), all built on the POLATIS patented DirectLight™ optical switching platform that has been proven in the most challenging data center, telecom and defense and test applications for over a decade.
