Reliable Fiber Optic Splice Box for Offshore Applications

In offshore wind energy operations, communication and signal integrity are non-negotiable. Harsh marine environments that are characterised by high winds, saltwater corrosion, and the gradual wear of components can pose critical challenges to maintaining reliable connectivity. For wind turbines and substations that (more often than not) operate several miles from shore, robust and secure fiber optic infrastructure is essential to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations.

At HUBER+SUHNER, we have deep expertise in connectivity solutions engineered for such extreme conditions with a robust portfolio that includes fiber optic cables, connectors, assemblies, designed for offshore environments. HUBER+SUHNER structured cabling solution enables ease in management and expandable, ensuring a safe and quick modification whenever required.

We’re delighted to introduce a comprehensive, customizable solution that brings these elements together: the HUBER+SUHNER Fiber Optic Offshore Splice Box.

Built for offshore demands

This stainless-steel enclosure is purpose-built for offshore installations and with an IP67 rating, it offers a secure termination point for fiber optic subsea cables that connect wind turbines to each other and to a substation offshore.

With high fiber density and modular design, the Fiber Optic Offshore Splice Box is a simplified plug-and-play cable management solution that supports future scalability. Custom dimensions and configurations allow for tailored deployment, and intuitive labelling and routing features make servicing straightforward.

The Box is available pre-assembled and is tested before delivery, with a system that ensures plug-and-play installation with zero patching errors. Integrated functions such as Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and expandable splice cassettes make the solution future-proof, while a built-in earthing concept enhances safety.

The Fiber Optic Offshore Splice Box incorporates several of our proven technologies:

1. Q-ODC® Connectors – Quick, robust, and EMI protected waterproof connections for harsh environments with a push-pull coupling mechanism with two clearly defined mating states.

Q-ODC® Connectors

2. LiSA – A neatly-organised high-density fiber splicing and patching management (across further functions such as multiplexing or splitting) solution with easy access and modularity. Users can save valuable space with simplified physical access to components, for maintenance and easy in upgradability.
