LISA - centralised cross-connects

LISA (Leading Interconnect System Approach) is a dedicated, high-density fiber management system commonly used as a centralised cross-connect in the Main Distribution Area (MDA) of large data centers. With a depth of 300 mm and full access from the front side, LISA racks can be positioned against unused walls at the end of cold aisles or back to back on a single floor tile. LISA racks have a maximum density of 3600 LCD ports per rack (100 cassettes with 36 ports each) or 7200 LCD ports per floor tile when placed back to back.

LISA differs from conventional 19" panels in that it is fully accessible from the front. This means that users can install, patch or remove LISA fiber cassettes simply by sliding them out, without having to access the rear of the cabinet. Patching to the LISA rack is fast and easy and a dedicated slack storage area for patch cords allows users to make "any-to-any" patching with only two lengths of patch cords.

LISA chassis

LISA chassis

LISA chassis enable high-density applications and supports splice, patch, transition, splitter or WDM cassettes inside the centralised cross-connect rack. Incoming backbone cables are connected on the incoming side, while patch cords link ports on the opposite side of the LISA chassis.

The 19-inch fixings at the rear of the LISA chassis provide full access for all incoming and outgoing fibers and the integrated service loops allow the LISA cassettes to be inserted and retracted quickly and easily.

LISA cassettes

LISA cassettes

LISA cassettes are side-facing connectivity “blocks” that are inserted into LISA chassis within high-density 300 mm racks. Designed for speed of installation and improved accessibility, LISA cassettes can be installed and removed in under 10 seconds. LISA cassettes cover a wide range of applications including splicing, transition, splitting, WDM and patching.

LISA solutions

LISA solutions

The LISA solution is a flexible and modular fiber management system. By cleverly combining the available building blocks, this concept supports a range of different applications. The constant development of the LISA system enables customer needs to be addressed in the optimum manner.

LISA chassis 7U

LISA chassis are available as 7 U units with a density of up to 15 LISA cassettes per LISA chassis. This configuration allows the use of splice, transition and patch cassettes. Depending on the application, fully loaded 47 U high racks can accommodate a maximum of 100 LISA cassettes.

LISA chassis 1-6 U

LISA chassis are also available in 1 U, 2 U, 3 U and 6 U configurations. Their capacity allows the use of 2 LISA cassettes per height unit. The configurations support splice, transition and patch cassettes. Depending on the application, fully loaded 47 U high racks can accommodate a maximum of 94 LISA cassettes.

LISA chassis 1-3 U for 19” transition applications

Within the LISA portfolio, HUBER+SUHNER offers chassis for 19” applications which allow LISA cassettes to be integrated into 19" equipment distribution racks. Flexible mounting options at the rear of this LISA chassis enable quick cable fixation and protect the incoming cables. Patch cords are routed from the front side of the chassis. Depending on the application, they can either be guided to the rear of the rack around the vertical rail or vertically upwards or downwards along the rail.

The LISA chassis have a lockable steel door which keeps the connections secure. This feature is particularly beneficial in colocation areas where multiple subscribers occupy the same rack space.

LISA fiber cassettes for patching

The LISA patch cassette is a straight-through MTP®, LC or SC simplex patching field which allows trunk cables to be connected directly to patch cords or harnesses. In Base-2 single-mode applications, the LISA patching cassette provides a fast alternative to fusion splicing and can be used for transition applications. The LISA patch cassette is designed to facilitate end-to-end parallel optics using Base-8, Base-12 or Base-24 connectivity.

LISA fiber cassettes for splicing

The LISA cassette for splicing facilitates the fusion splicing of 24 individual heat-shrink splices or sandwich splices. Both fiber storage areas provide storage space for 1.5 metres of fiber, which can be easily identified by  colour and label. The splicing module is suitable for all Optipack 8, 12 and 24-strand cables and can also accommodate bend-limiting.

LISA fiber cassettes for splitting

The LISA cassette splitter supports a large range of splitter applications, such as splitting a signal into several ratios. The offering supports single-mode and multimode fibers and the use of SC, LC or MTP® connections. LISA cassettes for splitting are available in a splice configuration.

LISA fiber cassettes for transition

The LISA cassette for transition applications converts MTP® backbone cables to small-form-factor connections, such as LC-duplex and SC. Transition modules are available in configurations with 12 or 18 ports. Depending on the requirements, up to 4 x MTP-8, 3 x MTP-12 or 1 x MTP-24 can be handled.

LISA fiber cassettes for WDM

The LISA cassette for WDM provides a compact and flexible cassette solution for WDM technology. This enables multiplexing units with almost any wavelength combination to be integrated into LISA systems within the relevant grid to enhance customer value.

LISA Double Access

LISA Double Access is a high-density and modular cross-connect fiber management solution with a clear demarcation point between incoming and outgoing connections. The solution has been designed for customers who demand quick, simple and reliable MACs (Moves, Adds and Changes) while expecting an attractive cost/benefit ratio.

In addition to the well-known features offered by the LISA system, the LISA Double Access design physically separates the incoming and outgoing connections of the installation. The centralised overlength management provides a good overview of connections.

Operators appreciate the simple and effective cable handling offered by this solution. Each port within the rack can be reached with a 3.5-metre patch cord, further simplifying operations and logistics.
The use of a 1500 mm rack reduces floor space requirements by 17 % compared to a conventional LISA setup with equivalent port density.
