The future of C-RAN architecture
With a move to C-RAN architecture the central hub becomes a most important area which demands "Excellence in Connectivity" throughout.

Potentially hundreds or thousands of connections need to be brought in, managed within the infrastructure and routed to where they are needed. Equipment racks housing vital network elements need to link seamlessly with each other as an optimised system with each element key to the success of the whole.

HUBER+SUHNER GPSoF modules are focused on distributing a single GPS signal into multiple receiver systems. This approach ensures that signal data, such as time synchronization into separate, yet connected, systems is always the same. Standard GPSoF systems include both single and multiport solutions; and accommodate both L1 and L2 bands.

In addition to the GPSoF modules, HUBER+SUHNER also provides a Time and Frequency Standard (TFS) module. This module uses 1PPS to ensure that time synchronization is still possible in the event of a loss of GPS signal. The pulse is synchronized to the average of the GPS signal. The module also provides a 10 MHz electrical output, which is used for reference signaling. The small form factor of the GPSoF modules ensures that the systems are ideal for both fixed and mobile applications, where space may be limited.

Optical Switches

Polatis' highly reliable piezoelectric Directlight® beam-steering technology sets the industry standard for lowest optical loss and highest performance. With more than a billion port-hours accumulated on deployed units, the Polatis technology platform delivers a broad range of class-leading all-optical matrix switch products into demanding applications. At the core of Polatis optical switches is our patented DirectLight beam-steering technology that makes connections using compact piezoelectric actuators to align collimated beams of light from opposing arrays of input and output fibers with minimal loss, distortion or interference between paths. Alignment is maintained using feedback from integrated position sensors to ensure connection stability over time, temperature and external disturbances. Switching occurs completely independently of the power level, colour or direction of light on the path, enabling pre-provisioning of dark fiber and avoiding concatenation of switching delays across mesh or multi-stage switched optical networks. Polatis optical switches are fully non-blocking and available in sizes from 4x4 to 384x384.

The Polatis Series 6000 Protection Services Switch (PSS) is a versatile solution for a wide range of protection switching applications. The PSS can protect up to 16 transmission RX/TX line pairs in a compact 1RU space and uses less than 25 Watts. It can operate as a standalone protection switch or it can be controlled and monitored by a higher level network management system to expand its capabilities.

IANOS® - high-density connectivity system

The IANOS system from HUBER+SUHNER is a state of the art fiber optic management system which facilitates fast, flexible and future-proofed connectivity in the data center. As its name suggests "IANOS" (inspired by the Roman god Janus) looks to the past as well as to the future. LISA - centralised cross-connects

LISA (Leading Interconnect System Approach) is a dedicated, high-density fiber management system commonly used as a centralised cross-connect in the Main Distribution Area (MDA) of large data centers. With a depth of 300 mm and full access from the front side, LISA racks can be positioned against unused walls at the end of cold aisles or back to back on a single floor tile. LISA racks have a maximum density of 3600 LCD ports per rack (100 cassettes with 36 ports each) or 7200 LCD ports per floor tile when placed back to back.

LISA differs from conventional 19" panels in that it is fully accessible from the front. This means that users can install, patch or remove LISA fiber cassettes simply by sliding them out, without having to access the rear of the cabinet. Patching to the LISA rack is fast and easy and a dedicated slack storage area for patch cords allows users to make "any-to-any" patching with only two lengths of patch cords.
