The leading network provider Optus, part of Asia’s pre-eminent communications group SingTel, is now deploying 4G/LTE technology across Australia. In a contract worth AUD 800,000, HUBER+SUHNER’s advanced interconnection solutions will be at the heart of the Optus network. With this, mobile users have access to 4G data services to improve their searching, browsing and content streaming on-the-go.
In a move designed to provide its customers with 4G capability as quickly as possible, Optus has entered into a network joint venture agreement with other providers. They share both existing mobile sites while developing new sites across key parts of Australia. Each of these mobile sites will be upgraded or developed using the newest mobile communications technology including the latest generation remote radio head (RRH) designs. These provide not only the level of wireless capability needed for 4G performance and beyond, but can also be installed, maintained and upgraded quickly and easily.
MLEH cable systems for installation at up to 150 sites
To further speed installation and subsequent modification or replacement, Optus’s equipment supplier, Visionstream, has specified connector solutions from HUBER+SUHNER’s established MASTERLINE product family. These have been developed specifically for today’s RRH-based site installations. Visionstream, part of Leighton Holdings, joins a fast growing number of equipment suppliers and network operators across the globe, which opted for HUBER+SUHNER’s MASTERLINE EXTREME HYBRID (MLEH) system. The MLEH cable system is used for providing both fibre and power to the antennas. Visionstream has specified both 6/12 and 9/18 MLEH cable systems for installation at up to 150 sites.
Bird-proof MLEH cable systems
In addition to temperature extremes, wireless infrastructures across Australia face another, potentially damaging problem – the attention of birds. These are famous for tearing up costly installations so Visionstream has also specified HUBER+SUHNER’s bird-proof MLEH option.
Installed in half of the time of other solutions
Commenting on the contract, Ricardo Haselbach, Managing Director HUBER+SUHNER Australia says “This order of Visionstream represents a major breakthrough for H+S Australia and helps us to consolidate and build upon our initial FTTA design in success with Optus, who are Australia’s second largest telecom operator. Engineers at Visionstream recognise that our MLEH cabling solution is the most efficient and easiest-to-install product available on the market. It can be installed in half of the time of competitive hybrid solutions based on corrugated coax cable designs. The factory-terminated plug&play system in combination with a highly flexible and easy-to-route cable makes the HUBER+SUHNER solution the hybrid cable of choice for operators, system vendors and installers alike”.
