NGR (New Generation Rack)

The NGR (New Generation Rack) is a purpose-built high-density fiber management rack which serves as a central cross-connect in the main distribution area of data centers. With a footprint depth of only 300 mm, the NGR is fully modular and scalable up to 1620 ports (3240 fibers) using LC connectivity and 1080 ports (25 920 fibers) using MTP® connectivity. Users benefit from a C-shaped construction that allows all internal sub-elements to be installed and accessed from the front side. This important feature means that NGRs can be placed back to back on a single floor tile, or alternatively against an unused wall or directly on the sides of existing enclosures and rows of racks for minimal space consumption.

The NGR is the most flexible and scalable fiber management system on the market. Different fiber performances, connectivity types and applications can be mixed and matched in the same cabinet, which enables the overall solution to evolve at the same pace as the data center.

The NGR rack adapts to any environment and can be configured to meet any requirements. Its large range of accessories facilitates fiber management and improves cabling.

NGR 300 mm wide

The 300 mm wide rack can be used as a stand-alone cabinet for trunk cable management or as an extension to the standard 900 mm NGR when trunk cable overlength needs to be managed on both sides. This rack is especially suitable for the HUBER+SUHNER Optipack cabling system.

NGR 600 mm wide

The 600 mm wide rack is available in two versions:

  • Empty version to install LISA chassis with suitable LISA cassettes depending on the required performance or connectivity type
  • SYLFA version with side-mounted patch cord management for compact modules MultiCircuit (MCM) or SingleCircuit (SCM), break-out termination box (BTU), 19” patch and splice panel or CTS splice box

NGR 900 mm wide

The 900 mm wide rack has an integrated and easily accessible patch/trunk cable management system. This provides defined patch cable and trunk/breakout cable-slack management within the rack. The NGR rack was developed specifically for the requirements of backbone cabling (main distribution area and meet-me-room) but can also be mounted and integrated as a meet-me room/distribution point directly on the sides of existing enclosures and rows of racks.

NGR 1200 mm wide

NGR 1200 mm wide

The NGR 1200 is designed as a dedicated "patching rack" and is configured by adding a 300 mm wide cable overlength rack to the left-hand side of a standard 900 mm rack. The NGR 1200 is configured to provide an equal amount of cable management on both sides of the rack. The 1200 mm wide rack is ideally suited for patching applications with standard connectivity (patch cords or fan-outs) or 40G and 100G applications where MTP® connectivity is required.

NGR 1500 mm wide

The NGR 1500 is designed particularly to address the needs of the colocation applications within the data center market for managing passive optical components with physical separation (clear demarcation points) between the customer and provider side. The rack is especially designed for LISA Double Access applications with up to 1620 ports (3240 fibers) using LC connectivity and 1080 ports (25 920 fibers) using MTP® connectivity. Within the Double Access rack, only one patch cord length (3.5 m) is required to reach each port. For attached Double Access racks, a calculation tool helps to determine the required patch cord length across cabinets.

The NGR 1500 has an integrated and easily accessible, intuitive patch/trunk cable management system, with defined routing for patch and trunk/breakout cable lengths within the rack.

These types of NGR are extensions for a better cable management, especially in combination with NGR 1500. These extensions help to guide and store trunk cables including excess lengths and are especially suitable for the HUBER+SUHNER Optipack cabling system.

When using harness trunk cables with duplex or simplex connectors and mini cable fan-outs, it is recommended to use additional 300 mm wide extension racks left and right (total width is then 2100 mm). Here, the trunk multi-break-out cables should also be secured to the rack at the entrance (top or bottom) and only the individual cables should be routed and stacked using cable overlength management.
