Sustainability

Initiatives

At HUBER+SUHNER, we are taking steps towards limiting global warming and promoting resource efficiency. As the demand for climate- and environmentally-friendly solutions increases, we – together with our customers and partners – aim to be drivers of change.

Let's work together towards a more sustainable future.

Recycled copper cables

What: HUBER+SUHNER introduces 100% recycled copper cables. These cables are designed to meet industry standards while minimising environmental impact and reducing carbon footprint, without compromising on performance.

Why: Currently, around 80% of our greenhouse gas emissions stem from the materials we source, with copper being the main driver of the environmental impact of our cables. Therefore, reducing our cables’ carbon footprint starts with copper. is the natural starting point.

How: Our railway and automotive cables are made from recycled copper, resulting in an average 60% reduction in carbon footprint. Additionally, recycled copper has a significantly lower impact on biodiversity and natural resources.

Circular cable drums

What: HUBER+SUHNER together with Axjo, a supplier of high-quality cable drums, launch a pilot project for a circular system of cable drums used to transport our cables in Germany.

Why: Cable drums can typically be reused up to eight times, making their integration into a circular system an obvious choice. Axjo cable drums are made from 100% recycled materials, making them an environmentally friendly choice without compromising on quality.

How: By returning, repairing, or recycling your drums, you help reduce material consumption, waste, and emissions while lowering your company’s environmental impact. You can conveniently arrange for a pick-up by Axjo at any location in Germany.

Sustainable packaging

What: HUBER+SUHNER has committed to source packaging regionally and to reduce single-use plastic bags from our supply chain each year. We also work on optimising our logistics processes for packaging material by combining orders and by reducing multi-packaging types.

Why: We want to reduce waste generation and weight for packaging and use 100% FSC-certified paper instead of single-use plastic. Our goal is to reduce 2.2 million single-use plastic bags yearly from the supply chain and to reduce 50% of CO2 emissions.

How: Currently, we provide packaging that is fully recyclable for our indoor fiber optic cable assemblies and plug-type attenuators. Additionally, the packaging of our LISA and IANOS® fiber modules offers a 50% reduction of CO2 emissions.
