Enabling reliable FTTA deployments in harsh environments

As fiber-to-the-antenna (FTTA) networks continue to expand, the reality on site is becoming more complex. Network densification, urban rollouts, and industrial installations are pushing infrastructure into environments where space is limited, conditions are harsh, and installation time is critical.

From extreme weather exposure and mechanical stress to rodent damage and tight enclosures at the FTTA box, today’s deployments demand more than individual components - they require reliable, system-level solutions designed for harsh environments from the outset.

One common bottleneck during FTTA rollouts is limited flexibility at the FTTA box itself. Box designs vary, and additional on-site modifications can slow installation and increase labour costs.

HUBER+SUHNER FTTA Box Adapter Kits are designed to remove these constraints. They enable seamless connection to FTTA boxes equipped with standard cable glands while remaining compatible with traditional screwed divider solutions.

Designed for the challenges of modern FTTA rollouts

Outdoor FTTA installations must deliver consistent performance over years of operation - often in locations that are difficult to access after installation. Any failure can mean costly maintenance visits, service disruption and downtime.

The expanded HUBER+SUHNER Harsh Environment portfolio is engineered to address key customer challenges:

  • Faster installations in space-constrained environments
  • Higher resilience against environmental and mechanical stress
  • Reduced lifetime maintenance and risk of unexpected outages

Rather than treating enclosures, distribution and cabling as separate elements, the portfolio follows a system approach - covering the FTTA box, fiber distribution point and cable system as one integrated solution.

FTTA Box Adapter Kits – flexible installations at the FTTA box

One common bottleneck during FTTA rollouts is limited flexibility at the FTTA box itself. Box designs vary, and additional on-site modifications can slow installation and increase labour costs.

HUBER+SUHNER FTTA Box Adapter Kits are designed to remove these constraints. They enable seamless connection to FTTA boxes equipped with standard cable glands while remaining compatible with traditional screwed divider solutions.

Customer benefits:

  • Greater flexibility regardless of FTTA box design
  • Simple integration using pre-installed glands
  • Faster installation with reduced on-site complexity
  • Lower deployment time and installation effort

By giving installers more options at the FTTA box, deployments become easier to plan and quicker to execute.

MLUM with Q-ODC-2 mini – compact fiber distribution for space-constrained environment

As networks become denser, space at the distribution point is increasingly scarce—especially in urban infrastructure, small cells and industrial sites.

The MASTERLINE Ultimate Micro (MLUM) with Q-ODC-2 mini is a compact, pre-terminated outdoor fiber distribution solution specifically developed for space-constrained FTTA deployments.

With IP68 ingress protection, IK10 impact resistance and UV-resistant design, MLUM is built to perform reliably in harsh outdoor environments while maintaining a very small footprint.

Customer benefits:

  • Compact design for tight installation spaces
  • Plug-in architecture for faster rollout
  • Robust protection for long-term outdoor use
  • Scalable solution supporting future network expansion

MLUM enables high-density FTTA distribution without compromising on durability or performance.

Rodent Protected+ cable systems – long-term protection for harsh environments

Cables remain one of the most vulnerable elements in outdoor FTTA networks - particularly in environments exposed to rodents, mechanical stress and environmental wear.

The Rodent Protected+ (RP+) Cable System and Assemblies are engineered to provide enhanced protection without sacrificing flexibility or handling.

Featuring a protective metal layer and full system protection from connector to connector, RP+ solutions reduce the risk of cable damage across the entire FTTA link.

Customer benefits:

  • Increased resistance to rodent attacks
  • Reduced risk of cable failure and downtime
  • Lower maintenance effort over the network lifecycle
  • Reliable performance in outdoor and industrial environments

This added level of protection helps safeguard network availability long after installation is complete.
