Connecting – today and beyond
The commercial electric vehicle (EVs) market continues to expand across the globe, and is expected to be worth approximately $682.5 billion by 2030 – an expected growth rate of 27.3%. Coinciding with this growth is the increasing electrification of buses, trucks, and other specialised vehicles, in part due to the convergence of environmental targets and regulations, as well as rapid technological advancements within the sector. As pressure and demand builds, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) no longer see faster time to market as a bonus, but a priority.
Yet this can be a struggle, especially considering the design, safety, and reliability challenges that often result from using high electrical currents. If mistakes are made during implementation, or power isn’t distributed effectively, it can result in operational issues and inflated costs for OEMs. As a result, cost-effective, easily integrable solutions that can be configured and installed quickly are crucial in today’s market – especially as manufacturers look to adhere to the latest automotive standards.
The modular High Voltage Distribution Unit (mHVDU) is a ready-to-install solution that serves as the central hub for high voltage power distribution in electric vehicles. Designed around a modular, off-the-shelf architecture, the mHVDU enables OEMs to integrate a fully validated unit quickly and easily into their vehicle platforms. This approach reduces development effort, shortens lead times, and lowers overall system costs by eliminating custom tooling and extensive in-house validation.
The mHVDU 800 is the latest offering that builds on this proven concept to meet higher power demands of modern commercial and special vehicles. It supports voltages of up to 800V and integrates M32 holes into the standard housing of the unit, which allows for a larger cable cross section of up to 95 mm2 – a typical requirement for OEMs within EV manufacturing. The mHVDU 800 has also been fully validated with the latest automotive standards.
Operational safety is of paramount importance to these OEMs, and this is also reflected in the mHVDU’s design: the box is rated 800V and it can be equipped with Insulation Monitoring Devices (IMDs) and an additional interlock loop to reduce risks associated with high voltage operation. Based on standardised components, the mHVDU 800 offers greater flexibility and scalability while remaining fully compatible with the HUBER+SUHNER highvoltage portfolio. The mHVDU 800 combines modularity, safety, and cost efficiency – providing OEMs with a future ready foundation needed for nextgeneration of EV architectures.voltage portfolioready foundation generation.
As electrification extends beyond buses to a wider range of commercial and special vehicles, OEMs are facing growing performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. Higher system voltages, harsher operating conditions, and tighter development timelines are making robust and scalable power distribution solutions a necessity.
The mHVDU 800 addresses these challenges with a cost-effective, modular, and ready-to-install design that simplifies integration while enhancing durability, safety, and overall vehicle performance. Backed by HUBER+SUHNER’s deep market expertise, the mHVDU 800 provides OEMs with a future ready solution to support the next generation of electric vehicles - today and beyond.
